VaNTH offers
two internship opportunities for undergraduates interested in participating
in the research of the center and working on projects in bioengineering
educational technologies.
-
The
Research Experiences for Undergraduates program targets juniors and
seniors across the country majoring in a number of disciplines including
Science Education, Biological Sciences, Computer Science, Graphics Arts,
Physical Sciences, Engineering or Learning Sciences. The internship
includes work on laboratory research projects, training in bioethics and
technical communications, seminars dealing with ethical issues in
biotechnology, and visits to area industries.
-
The Vanderbilt School of Engineering also co-sponsors a two to
three month Summer
Research Program for Vanderbilt Engineering Undergraduate
Students.
Many of VaNTH’s
industrial partners are also seeking summer undergraduate interns.
Typically a student will work on a project for a period of 10 - 12 weeks
under the supervision of a senior researcher or engineer at the company. The
placement of students is based upon mutual agreement between the company,
the student, and the ERC. For more information, please contact Jean Alley
at jean.m.alley@vanderbilt.edu.
Undergraduate students at Vanderbilt University may
also enroll in
BME 241-Undergraduate Projects in BME Education. This
course offers one to three hours of credit for students to conduct an
independent project that explores a selected topic in bioengineering
education. The project is to be conducted under the supervision of a
biomedical engineering faculty member or another faculty member approved by
the course director.
Students involved in ERC research are encouraged to
participate in the VaNTH Student Leadership Council. This group of graduate
and undergraduate students is active in promoting many of the outreach activities of VaNTH.
